Course Syllabus
- TITLE OF COURSE: - CS1003 - Beginning Computers and Technology
- COURSE DESCRIPTION: Three hour lecture course. This course is designed for individuals who have limited knowledge of a computer, keyboarding, and internet applications. It will introduce students to the basics of using a computer for a variety of applications. Students will also learn the technique of touch keyboarding. This course will also investigate the use of a variety of internet applications and visit important topics in technology. For each unit of
credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and
two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.
- PROGRAM AND/OR DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT: The CIS Program will provide superior learning opportunities in the area of information technology, utilizing state-of-the-art technology, for both CIS majors and non CIS majors to enable all students to achieve their career and/or educational goals.
- TEXTBOOK AND MATERIALS: No textbook required.
- SCCC/ATS OUTCOMES: Students who successfully complete this course will demonstrate the ability to do the following SCCC/ATS Outcomes:
- Outcome #6 - Utilize current technology relevant to their respective disciplines.
- Outcome #9 - Exhibit workplace skills that include respect for others, teamwork competence, attendance/punctuality, decision making, conflict resolution, truthfulness/honesty, positive attitude, judgment and responsibility.
- COURSE OUTCOMES: Upon completion of the Basic Computer Fundamentals course with 80% or higher mastery of course competencies, the student should be able to:
- Utilize a personal computer to perform basic applications
- Identify and utilize the various features of the Windows operating system
- Develop touch keyboarding skills
- Identify and utilize the Internet for a variety of applications
- Become aware of various issues in technology

- INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS: Instructors will enforce the Academic Honor Code & Cheating Policy as set forth in the SCCC/ATS College Catalog. Students who fail to adhere to this policy will receive an F for the course final grade unless otherwise stated in the instructor's course policies.

- METHODS OF ASSESSMENT: SCCC/ATS Outcomes #6 and #9 will be assessed by a variety of assignments and projects.
